This Side of Midnight

Nicole Lyons/The Lithium Chronicles

The Lithium Chronicles

I believe there is a window,
mounted in mourning, hung
just this side of midnight.
And when we call out,
through its shattered glass
and torn screens,
something in the universe
shifts, allowing our echoes
and our unfortunate words
to ride the wind, and carry
our secrets into the open
windows of the insomniacs
of the world,
those tragic beasts
that spend their nights
walking with demons,
and wrestling their mental health,
while they wish this world away.
And I think if we whisper,
just a little louder
than library vibes,
or a pitch higher
than the purists that preach
on Sunday morning,
we could spill our secrets
before the clock strikes done,
and someone who has spent
their night wandering
can open the window,
on their side of midnight,
and hear the voices
that never took the time
to walk them home at dawn.
