Machine heart chasing
cathartic dreams when
oxygen through
a straw
outlives
novelty.

Bodily, I’m sound but
short of breath,
romanticizing the death
of blood on my words,
cauterizing
honesty.

Optimally, I’ll go out
the same way I came in;

favouring thrash, rather than gasps-
worshiping chaos, haphazard maps.

Such is my odyssey;

crass where
civility failed, fluids
lost too fast to
absorb the available
air, begging something better,
and yet you smoked through

that
stash
and
called
it dirt.

Joy through a straw; that’s almost a first.
