Seeking Help After Surgery

Georgia Park/I am a poet! I am. I am. I am a poet, I reaffirmed, ashamed.

I am a poet! I am. I am. I am a poet, I reaffirmed, ashamed.

These questions are baffling me:

Why didn’t you go

to the emergency room?

Why didn’t you seek help

the day after surgery?

Because I did.

The way that people

who are not used to

having health insurance

do it.

I went to the corner store

in the alley

and picked up some medication.

It didn’t help.

I thought, after surgery,

life was supposed to be hell.
