waterline

lois e. linkens

water

where the ashes meet their death,
a mammal takes a final breath.
the terror haunts warm blooded burst
entreating for a quench of thirst
ribbons twist and ribbons tumble
lidded in an ocean jungle
inches swallow human life
near the surface neptune’s knife
edges close to draw you in
sparkling flashes – black as sin.
