Trapeze Artists – Georgia Park

Trapeze Artists – Georgia Park (Private Bad Thoughts/Whisper and the Roar)

The contouring bodies
of artists intertwine
chins lifted to look up
spinning rapidly
towards each other
reaching, being picked
up so completely
It makes me want to
fall in love again
the smell of whiskey
on the people

around me-
the artists

wrap their bodies
in the gauze

that’s lifting them
it looks like

but then,
they turn it
into a swing
it lifts them,
they’re reaching
and touching
and the people,
they love it
and the artists
are so thin I can’t
tell if they’re men
or women
then they go limp
and pile like
dead bodies
while me,

I drink my own

[Georgia Park is creator of Private Bad Thoughts, curator of Whisper and the Roar a feminist literary collective, and a writer for Sudden Denouement. She is a wonderful poet with an enormous heart. I can’t imagine this journey without her. Please check out more of her wonderful work.]
